Job Introduction

We are seeking a diligent and enthusiastic individual to provide support across a boarding house as Resident Matron of Rubens House. This is an incredibly important role providing pastoral care to the girls, under the leadership of the Rubens Housemistress and the Deputy Housemistress to create a relaxed, happy and caring environment for our girls.

Rubens House has around 60 pupils from ages 12 to 17, situated in a new purpose-built House, with plenty of communal work and living spaces. Rubens is a kind, supportive and joy-filled House where every pupil feels part of a special sisterhood and their individual talents are recognised and nurtured by their peers and the staff looking after them.

The successful candidate must have previous experience working with young people, a strong commitment to the boarding ethos, warmth, enthusiasm and excellent communication and organisational skills.

This is a residential role and the post-holder is therefore required to be a resident within the Boarding House during term time as well as before and after the beginning and end of terms in order to ensure the efficient preparation and running of the House.

Hours of Work: Term time only, plus sufficient time at the beginning and end of term to ensure the House is prepared. The Resident Matron will be on duty whilst in residence with the exception of a 36-hour period each week. This period of time is decided in negotiation with the School as appropriate and may vary depending upon the needs of the School. There is also time off during the course of the day/evening which should be agreed with the Housemistress.

Salary: £29,610 per annum (based on a full time equivalent of £41,125 per annum).

To apply, please complete an application form and submit this, together with a covering letter, to the Headmistress, Mrs J Duncan by selecting “Apply for this job”. Closing date for applications: Wednesday 1 May 2024.

Interview date: Week commencing Monday 6 May 2024.

We reserve the right to appoint to this position before the closing date, should we receive a high volume of suitable early applications.
